Five Things You Must Know Before Having LASIK

The decision to have LASIK surgery is an important one. We at the Kleiman-Evangelista Eye Center take your vision and your confidence in us very seriously. Below we have outlined five things that you must know about your personal vision prior to deciding on a LASIK surgery center. The problem most people have is asking the right questions. The ones which affect their long term care. We believe the next few questions will get you started in the right direction when considering whether LASIK is right for you.

Will my LASIK Surgeon handle all of my eye care needs after my surgery? If my vision isn’t just right will my Doctor do more surgery?
Many doctors won’t do enhancements if you are 20/30 or better. At Kleiman-Evangelista Eye Center we take our commitment to out patients seriously. We won’t put off a retreatment until some limited warranty has run out. If your vision isn’t as good as we reasonably told you it would be, we will take care of any enhancement procedures that needs to be done for life, at no cost to you*. We are also a full service practice, so your surgeon will also be there to treat your other eye needs as you age such as glaucoma and cataracts.

What’s the difference between all the laser technologies?
Most of your reputable LASIK surgeons only use the latest technology. Some technologies are better suited for a doctor’s preference and style. There are no requirements to upgrade your Laser. Make sure your doctor has done them. Some centers will offer one price on outdated equipment and another price when it comes to the equipment they will use to perform your surgery. Often the surgeon whose name is on the building isn’t even the doctor doing your surgery. Keep in mind, everyone can buy the latest technology but the surgeon you choose needs to be proficient with the technology. At Kleiman Evangelista Eye Center we use the Visx Star S4 with 3D tracking and Iris recognition along with two wave scans to insure testing accuracy. And only Dr. Kleiman or Dr. Evangelista will perform your surgery.

What will happen to my eyes after my 40’s?
This is something that most patients don’t even know to ask, yet they have LASIK performed and then experience age related loss of reading vision in their mid to late 40’s. Considering LASIK when you’re nearing or after the age of 40 can be a great way to improve the quality of your life. Be sure the LASIK center you choose will do the proper testing to make sure your results equal your expectations. We have different visual needs after 40 and at the Kleiman Evangelista Eye Center we will take the time to explain all your options.

How long will each visit take for my surgery and the follow up visits?
We understand your comfort, peace of mind and your time are very important to you. Be sure you know just how long you will be waiting on your day of surgery as well as your follow up visits. At some LASIK centers patients are forced to wait between 4 to 6 hours for EACH visit, including their follow up exams. At Kleiman-Evangelista Eye Center we generally have patients in and out in 45 minutes on the day of surgery and 30 minutes on your follow up exams.

How much is LASIK surgery and how much is it at your competitors? What’s the difference?
LASIK prices around the Metroplex are very similar. Most of your reputable LASIK surgeons charge roughly the same price depending on the difficulty of the case. We believe in an honest, upfront approach. We will not only give you the price for your surgery here, we’ll show you competitive pricing so you can decide where your best value is. Shopping price, while it may be a good idea, is only one piece of the LASIK puzzle. How you choose a surgeon to take care of something as delicate as your eyes depends on many other factors.
